Michael Howley
Michael began playing at the age of 8 with the Gawthorpe ‘85 junior band.
During his 20 years in brass banding Michael has held the principal euphonium position with Rothwell Temperance, the Fairey band, Yorkshire Building Society, Brighouse and Rastrick and most recently the Hepworth band.
He has achieved notable contest success as a player, being part of 8 major championship victories, including 4 European titles.
Michael is also in demand as a soloist, performing around the UK and abroad. He was the winner of the European music en Picarde solo competition and was awarded the title of European Euphonium Player of the Year 2003.
He has also played 1st Euphonium with the Halle Orchestra in performances of Janacek’s Symphonietta.
In 2008 he released his debut solo album "The Life of a Dream"
Michael studied conducting at the Royal College of Music and is increasingly in demand as a brass tutor and band trainer.
He holds a BA in Music, a PGCE in secondary education and is a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama after gaining a Distinction in his performance examination.
Michael has been associate conductor of the Concord Brass Band of Copenhagen, leading their performance at the 2010 European brass band championships.
He has recently branched out into instrument design and has released his own range of mouthpieces, the Perantucci-Howley series.
